Financial Education

What is a credit union?

Not sure what a credit union is or why you should join?

Here are a few things that make us different.

Member-Owned Icon

• Credit Unions are owned by the membership, not by a paid board

• Our Board is volunteers that are voted in by members

• One vote per member

Profits go back to the members in the form of:

• Lower loan rates
• Higher savings rates
• More benefits

Credit Union members share a common bond. For SIU Credit Union members, our primary common bond is location.

Membership is open to any of the following individuals:

  • Anyone who lives or works in Alexander, Clinton, Edwards, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Marion, Massac, Monroe, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Wabash, Washington, Wayne, White, Williamson, or Union counties in Illinois
  • Anyone who works for one of our member companies (SEGs)
  • Anyone who belongs to any of the eligible associations
  • Immediate family members of existing members (parents, spouse, children, siblings, grandchildren, or grandparents)

SIU Credit Union is a member of the southern Illinois community and we love to give back!

We sponsor a financial education program as well as wear jeans on Blue Jean Days to fund local charities. Follow us on Facebook to see updates.

Cooperative Icon

When you are a member of a cooperative, you are a part of a mutual cycle of financial assistance. All members work together to create a common goal of financial wellness.

To put it simply, another member’s savings may turn into your loan!
