Kim Babington Retires from SIU Credit Union

Kim Babington on Friday, January 3rd, at a retirement celebration.

Kim Babington, VP of Community Outreach at SIU Credit Union,
has bid farewell to her illustrious career. She has been in the financial institution field for more than four decades and her tenure is marked bynbsp;dedication, innovation, andn an deep passion for outreach and community service that has left an indelible mark on southern Illinois.

Reflecting on her career, Kim expressed gratitude to her colleagues who supported her through the years. “I could not have done this all without the assistance from the wonderful folks here at SIU Credit Union.

I’ve had so many great colleagues help me with all my endeavors. I wouldn’t have survived my years without their support,” she shared with a warm smile.

Kim’s work has always been about community. Whether she was organizing events or running financial literacy workshops, her team of volunteers always rose to the occasion. “When I needed volunteers, the staff came forward without hesitation to show their commitment to serving our members and the community,” she said. Among her fondest relationships is her “work spouse,” Stacy Callahan. “Stacy is my best friend, and I will miss her the most. I hope to continue the relationship beyond my work life here,” Kim added, her voice tinged with emotion.

Kim has been in the Credit Union domain for almost four decades and 16 years with SIU Credit Union. Kim’s advice for others mirrors her philosophy:
“The credit union is always the best place for all your financial needs. Do your research, compare options, and make informed decisions. I can guarantee that nobody can beat our rates and services.”

A Career of Compassion

Kim’s journey wasn’t just about numbers and policies—it was about people. As Vice President of Community Outreach, she dedicated herself to the principle that “people helping people” is more than a motto; it’s a way of life. One moment that recently encapsulated Kim’s spirit took place during a financial literacy session at Marion Junior High School. Noticing a student’s worn-out shoes, Kim discreetly left the presentation, bought a new pair, and returned before the session ended. Her actions demonstrated her compassion and commitment to the community.

Her generosity extended beyond classrooms. From helping foster children to supporting SIU football players far from home, Kim created a sense of belonging for everyone she encountered. Her tireless efforts led to significant dollars being channeled into community initiatives, particularly benefiting underprivileged families and children with special needs in Southern Illinois. Her advocacy for children with special needs was unparalleled. Whether taking the polar plunge to fundraise for the Special Olympics or working as a Santa to visit group homes during Christmas, Kim’s passion for making a difference is legendary.

A Legacy That Endures

Kim was celebrated with an open house recently and was greeted by many friends, family and co-workers from over the years. Her departure marks the end of an era at SIU Credit Union, but her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the community she helped build. “Yes, several people will come and go, but Kim is one of a kind,” remarked a colleague at her retirement party.

As she steps into retirement, Kim leaves behind not just a legacy of service but a blueprint for compassion and dedication. While she will be deeply missed, her impact will resonate for years to come.

Happy retirement, Kim — you’ve earned it!
